What is Japan StrEAT Party?

Brisbane hosts many Japanese events throughout the year.

Recently, I went to the Japan StrEAT Party, a Japanese street food and drink festival on 18^th April 2026 at RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane. No entry fee for this event, and as a Japanese, I was amazed by the variety of Japanese street food. Also, I was glad the waiting line was not long. (I used to be more patient when I was in Japan...)

Do you think the food was authentic??

We ordered several Japanese street foods, and I ranked them by how authentic and tasty they were.

No.1: Hiroshima-yaki (the bottom of the picture)

Hiroshima-yaki blew my mind. Honestly, this was very good. The reason why the taste was really good was the topping. Bonito flake, Beni shoga (red pickled ginger), mayonnaise and okonomiyaki sauce were authentic.

No.2: Yakitori (chicken skewer)

I really loved the smoky flavour, which reminds me of Izakaya in Japan. I especially chose the teriyaki sauce, which was similar to the yakitori sold in Japan.

No.3: Hojicha-ice cream

I like matcha, but hojicha is another flavourful tea. And the ice cream was not that sweet and tasty!

No.4: Gyoza

Gyoza was good flavour, but I like it when it's more crunchy!

My favourite gyoza in Japan is the one in dan da dan!!

No.5: Yaki-soba

Yaki-soba has been the best street food since I was a child. When I went to see a fireworks event or a local festival, I always bought this. Therefore, my expectation was somewhat high. I would have liked it more if the sauce were thicker and had more Aonori (a powdered green seaweed).

Fun Facts regarding Japanese Food

Is yaki-soba the same as soba noodles?

I understand that yaki-soba sounds the same as soba noodles because the name includes soba, but the noodles are not the same type of soba noodles. It's made of flour, and the taste is a bit similar to ramen noodles.

Where can I find the Japanese Street food if I travel to Japan?

It depends on the area you wanna go.

In Tokyo, I recommend Tsukiji and Asakusa. In Tsukiji, you can find fresh fish, street food and of course sushi.

In Osaka, you can find Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki. It's really tasty.

Also, there are fireworks festivals in the summer season (July-September). You can find street food at a variety of stalls (called Yatai).

Overall, it was an amazing event to experience authentic Japanese street food and culture. The audience was quite diverse, and I was very happy to see people from various backgrounds and countries enjoy having Japanese food and drinks.
