Handmade Travel Guidebook -Gateway to Japan-

In May 2024, I met Cristiana for the first time in our first Japanese lesson.
She had been studying Japanese on Duolingo for about two years.

She was planning her first trip to Japan with her family in March 2025, so she decided to improve her Japanese.

At first, we practised useful travel phrases, such as ordering food at a restaurant, asking for directions, and other everyday expressions.

As our lessons continued, I discovered Cristy was curious about Japanese culture, and she was good at art, including drawing, crafting and cross-stitching.

One day, I remembered Japanese high school students often created handmade guidebooks for their school excursions.

Inspired by this, I suggested to Cristy, “Why don’t we try making your own guidebook?” Her eyes lit up, and with a smile, she said, “That sounds like a great idea!” And so, this project was born.

This guidebook brings together Cristy’s research on the places she planned to visit: Famous landmarks, history, beautiful architecture, and, of course, delicious food.

While preparing for her journey, she shared her thoughts with me,

“Thanks to this guidebook, I feel more confident about my trip, and my excitement just keeps growing!”
